Micachu and the Shapes...

This reminds me that, though folks say we've exhausted every chord progression, we have a plethora of new musical inventions before us. I love watching a violinist reach for a steel bladed saw and evoke the most haunting sounds, a guitarist tilt his instrument and brush it majestically with a violinist's bow; instrument' being played upside down and inside out.

The album Jewellery released by Micachu is magnificient and delirious; a colourful and frenzied mix of all types of musical tradition. It is pieced together like a broken slot machine but the sounds are delicious and new. It's not about albums anymore anyway; it's about ideas and new directions taken. Musically this band are groundbreaking and I look forward to when they don't sound so frenetic.
